As of Friday there were around 95 who have arrived in Eastbourne via the Homes for Ukraine Scheme. We are still expecting another 70 or so to arrive in the coming weeks.
Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell said: “I joined Cafe Ukraine at their inaugural meeting in May.
The cafe is for Ukrainian nationals and sponsors to offer support as Ukrainians make their lives here in Eastbourne.
It is held every Saturday from 10:00 – 12:30 at the Church of Our Lady of Ransom just opposite the Town Hall.
It was good to meet some of the families that myself and the team had helped across the line during the visa application stage.
As of Friday there are around 95 who have arrived via the Homes for Ukraine Scheme. We are still expecting another 70 or so to arrive in the coming weeks.
I also brought together representatives of the Cafe with the Job Centre so that Ukranians can be supported as they begin to look for work.
On transport the County Council provides bus passes for the first month, and support for CV writing, and English tuition is available too.
I will continue to support families and the hosts. Just get in touch if I can help in any way.”
