EASTBOURNE MP Caroline Ansell is urging the town’s older residents to claim what they are entitled to.
She says 40 per cent of those eligible for Pension Credits are not claiming it.
According to recent research, this has resulted in an increased cost of £4 billion to taxpayers in increased NHS and social care spending.
This includes an estimated £8.3 million spend in Eastbourne alone.
Caroline said: “At a time when pensioners, the NHS and the social care system are all being severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that action is taken to ensure Pension Credit is received by those who need it.
“Approximately 1 million people are missing out, including an estimated 2391 pensioner households in Eastbourne who are missing out on £5 million of benefits.
“If you or someone you know may benefit please contact the DWP.
“Let’s see if we can get this benefit to the people that should be receiving it.
“Please share this so that we can reach those that are missing out.”
