Five volunteers from the 2nd Willingdon Scout group were this week presented with a Commissioners Commendation, to recognise their dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to delivering scouting services throughout the incredibly difficult circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Scouting aims to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to develop and grow into well rounded and considerate adults. Covid was an incredibly trying time for all, but especially for youngsters who desperately missed their friends and extracurricular activities. The 2nd Willingdon team worked tirelessly to provide fun activities and run online sessions so children could maintain friendships and continue their scouting journey.

The section recently gathered to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and the five leaders were surprised by the presentation during the evening. The jubilee celebration was a huge success with children – and leaders – thoroughly enjoying being able to gather in person to celebrate in style.
