AT LAST! A new multi-million pound funding package to create a new two-lane Exceat Bridge announced in the Budget.
Here’s local MP Maria Caulfield: “I am delighted that the Chancellor has listened to myself and local Conservative Councillors on this important issue.
This £7.9 million funding will see the completion of the construction of the two lane Exceat Bridge, should the South Downs National Park approve the design.
Many residents will welcome the news that the Conservatives have secured funding to finally change this single car bridge into a modern function two way bridge that is fit for the 21st century.”
“I would like to thank the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for backing the Lewes constituency with this £7.9 million funding package. This is truly levelling up in action.”
The Lewes MP has long campaigned for the bottleneck on the A259 between Seaford and East Dean to be rebuilt as a two lane bridge. The additional £7.9 million of funding will top up the previously secured funding and funds from East Sussex County Council.
A planning application for the new two lane Exceat bridge is with the South Downs National Park and due to be decided shortly.
