THE Barclays branch in Hailsham is closing next February.
Angry customers have received a letter today.
John Figgins posted: “Hailsham is the largest non-coastal town in East Sussex yet Barclays are closing the branch,
Why? It’s always busy! Another major bank pulls out the town, such a shame for those who depend on the services they provide to the community.
All about the money and the viability of High Street branches I guess, Ringmer and Polegate both losing their Barclays in recent years.”
Jill Merner posted: “Ridiculous !!!! It is always busy and is a very much needed facility.
How on earth are the older generation supposed to continue with their independence and not expose themselves to fraud without the ability to use a local bank??
I am aware you can withdraw money from the post office – thank goodness they’ve reopened – but if you don’t have a savings account/current account with online banking how are you suppose to cope??”
Barclays says a decision to close a bank is never easy.
It says it hopes customers will stcik with them and use alternative ways of banking.
