POPULAR manager Bill Plumridge retires from The Beacon this month.

He is a much loved and well respected member of the Eastbourne community.

Bill has supported the town – and its people – in so many ways over the years.

Here is his farewell message: “After over 50 years working in and around retail, 19 with Army & Navy/House of Fraser and 31 years managing The Beacon/Arndale Centre I will be calling it a day at the end of this month.

During my career I have met thousands of people creating lifelong friendships along the way for which I thank them.

I have experienced so many highs over the years leaving me with a multitude of great memories.

Not bad for a young lad who started as a Saturday boy on the delicatessen section in Woolworths, Redhill, long before supermarkets achieved dominance!

I should like to thank my amazing, loyal and hard working team at The Beacon and wish them well in the future.

Nothing I have achieved would have been possible without the love and support of Carol, my wonderful wife of nearly 42 years and the rest of my beloved family.

It is now time to spend more time with our new puppy, my grandchildren, my garden and on the golf course, not necessarily in that order!

Thank you everyone, it has been a privilege knowing you all, contributing in a very small way to the success story that is Eastbourne.”
