EASTBOURNE MP Caroline Ansell has confirmed today she has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak asking for more support for our town.
She said: “A letter is with the Chancellor from me asking for further financial support for events and hospitality industries in our town.
These sectors have been further impacted by the tightened COVID restrictions.
I think the Chancellor unveiled generous support and the extension of the VAT reduction will also help a great deal, but the new Job Support Scheme (JSS) is not going to assist everyone.
The letter makes the case for further help in the shape of grants and loans to businesses which cannot use JSS.
I am also lobbying ministers to help fund an exciting new rail link and improved services from Eastbourne to Ashford and East London to increase jobs and opportunities for our town.
The extension to the High Speed 1 service to Eastbourne would connect the town with the growth corridor of Ebbsfleet and North European destinations.
Improved London services towards Stratford International would allow better access to Eastbourne from the East London Boroughs.”
