Schools Minister Nick Gibb met Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell to discuss the case of a young girl bravely battling cancer.

She will not be able to sit the GCSE exams she has worked so hard for. She could be left with only a certificate of recognition. Her friends and family are campaigning for change and Caroline is supporting them in this.

Centre Assessed Grades were instituted in pandemic years to allow students hit by closures to move forward with their lives.

Caroline said: “Two of my sons fell into this provision. So we have the ‘architecture’ to award grades in this way. There is surely a case. The Minister and I are looking at all the details.

I’m still at The Commons but courtesy of teams – another pandemic silver lining – I got to speak to Lucey and Christina who are advocating for the family.

There is great support locally but this situation will affect young people right across the nation. The link to the petition is here. Please support and share.”
