EASTBOURNE MP Caroline Ansell is warning that Covid is having ‘a chilling effect’ on Eastbourne’s hospitality.
“Although Parliament is currently on recess, the work of Government very much continues. Speaking with businesses it is clear that rising cases is having a chilling effect on hospitality which is a huge part of our town’s economy.
The Government has – as always – a fine balancing act to perform between keeping people safe and keeping jobs and businesses going while we battle the new variant.
I wrote to the Chancellor last week after engagement with concerned local business leaders and I so welcome the newly announced £1 billion support package for hospitality, tourism and leisure with grants of up to £6000 available. In a town like ours so dependent on these sectors this is very good news and it will save businesses and jobs. Again, the Government has decisively stepped in to help Eastbourne. “
