Christmas came early for three local charities this week.
Defiant Sports, Blue Van Armed Forces and Veterans and St Wilfrid’s Hospice were all delighted to be presented with cheques at Co-Op stores. During the year customers chose one of these causes to support as part of their membership scheme in which the Co-Op donates 2p for every 1p spent.
Defiant Sports’ mission is ‘connecting through sport’, they aim to reach those who have a barrier to participation in sport, especially with disabilities or long term conditions. They run a range of fun activities and social groups throughout the community. Their drop in Inclusion Hub at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne, is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and 10am to 12 pm on Saturdays. £6529 was raised and the money will go towards funding future events and equipment.
See their website for more details.
Blue Van Armed Forces and Veterans was established in 2019 and supports veterans and their families with issues such as health and social care. They have a Breakfast Club and drop in sessions on every second Tuesday of the month, based at Langney Community Centre, where veterans can have a chat or be signposted to other services that they need. The £6383 was raised will help with a move to their new venue in Eastbourne. More details on their website.
St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides support for people with any life limiting illness towards the end of their lives. They also support their families and carers, either in the hospice building, in Eastbourne, in the person’s own home or a care home.
£8804 was donated and the money will buy new chairs and gym equipment for their newly refurbished Living Well Centre.
