WEALDEN District Council have released dates for waste collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

David Plank, Head of Customer Services & Digital, said,

“Your collection days are changing over Christmas, so please put your rubbish and recycling out on the revised dates. There are no garden waste collections between Wednesday 25 December and Thursday 7 January. Garden waste collections start again on your usual days from Friday 8 January.

“As we did last year, we will not be posting out waste calendars to every household. This measure has helped us to save thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money and reduced paper waste by over a tonne.

“New collection calendars for 2021 are now available online. Residents can download their calendars for rubbish, recycling and garden waste collections, which also include the collection day changes over Christmas, at www.wealden.gov.uk.

“Anyone needing assistance to access their calendars can call our Customer Service Team on 01323 443322. We will then ensure you receive full information about your collection dates in a suitable format.

Residents can also receive free weekly reminders of their bin collections via email by signing up to the Council’s My Alerts here https://www.wealden.gov.uk/site-search/learn-more-about-myalerts/.”

Christmas Recycling

Councillor Roy Galley, Wealden Portfolio Holder for Waste Management, said, “Please remember to recycle as much as you can over Christmas. All residents should now have received their sticker with details of what can be recycled. This includes cans, aluminium foil, plastic bottles, plastic containers, paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars.

“If you have extra recycling this can be placed in non-black bags next to the recycling bin, except for glass, which needs to be put into the recycling bin.

“Most wrapping paper and plain Christmas cards can be recycled. However, paper or cards laminated with plastic, foil or covered in glitter can’t be recycled. Please place these in your rubbish bin.

“Don’t forget if you have a real Christmas tree, this can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Site. Or put this in your brown garden waste bin if you are subscribed to the garden waste collection service. If you are not subscribed, please visit www.wealden.gov.uk/gardenwaste for more information. If you have already subscribed but want an extra bin please call the Council on 01323 443322.”
