Following the success of the ‘My Town’ art competition earlier last year, it has now returned for the 2021/22 academic year!
The highly regarded competition is once again in collaboration with world-renowned architectural artist, Stephen Wiltshire MBE. This time around you will have the opportunity to work on your artwork all over christmas! So, what are you waiting for?
Much like the previous year, the ‘My Town’ competition theme revolves around local architectural views, buildings, favourite places or landmarks from the towns of Lewes, Eastbourne or Hastings.
This year’s competition is open to our current students and students from partner schools in Lewes, Eastbourne and Hastings. Submissions will be split into three age categories of 11-13, 14-16 and 17-19.
The competition gives students the chance to have their work published in the local press. All you need to do to enter is create a sketch, drawing or illustration in pen, pencil or ink. The medium should be paper, a sheet no bigger than A2 (420mm x 594mm, 16.53 x 23.39 inches), in a style similar to Stephen Wiltshire – preferably inspired from memory.
Should your submission be selected as a winner of the competition you will have the opportunity to meet Stephen at his gallery in London with lunch and travel paid for. The three winners from each category will receive a £100 gift voucher and the three runners up from each category will receive a £50 voucher. The winning prizes will also give six lucky students the opportunity to receive a signed copy of his book and a copy of a signed Stephen Wiltshire print.
Upon the launch of the ‘My Town’ art competition, Stephen said, “I’m teaming up with the college to relaunch this unique competition. This is a great way for young people to develop their creativity over the next few weeks and for them to hopefully produce a piece of art that they can be proud of.”
Nigel Ryan, Creative Partnerships Coordinator at East Sussex College, said, “We’re delighted to be able to collaborate with Stephen again to relaunch this exciting and unique competition to young people in the South East. It is something that we feel was hugely successful last year and we’re excited for its return for the 2021/22 academic year.”
Entries should be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Monday 24th January.
