East Sussex County Council is warning the financial settlement offered by the government this week means it is “almost impossible” to see how it is going to continue to provide “decent and effective services”.

East Sussex County Council, where the Conservatives lead a minority administration, has predicted a shortfall of £27.5m for the next financial year.

A spokesperson said: “Despite being a very well run council, this settlement is simply not enough to close our funding gap.

“It is almost impossible to see how the decent and effective services our residents need and deserve could be provided.”
