THE government has given funds to every council in Sussex for Covid marshals.

Some have spent the money.

Others have not.

Eastbourne Borough Council and Lewes District Council have been given £52,000.

A spokesman for both councils said: “We are not recruiting any additional staff at this time.”

Wealden District Council has appointed ‘at least’ five Information Officers with its money.

Rother District Council is hiring 10 Covid marshals.

Eastbourne Borough Council says its existing Neighbourhood First team will provide information in public areas.

The situation is apparently under review.
