Eastbourne Borough Council says it will house Afghan refugees.
Councils across the country are coming under pressure to commit to housing Afghan refugees in their areas.
Here is a statement from the council: “The government’s new resettlement scheme will see 5,000 refugees offered a home in the UK in the coming year, with priority given to women, girls and others in greatest need.
“In the coming years up to 20,000 Afghans will be allowed to settle here.
“Eastbourne Borough Council is ready to work alongside partners to welcome people arriving from Afghanistan.
“Both authorities are already committed to providing accommodation and support through the Afghan Locally Employed Staff resettlement scheme.”
