After more than two years waiting in the wings during the global pandemic, Eastbourne Gilbert & Sullivan Society is finally returning to the beautiful Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne, with one of the most popular G&S operettas: The Pirates of Penzance.

The society will be amongst the first performers to tread the boards of the newly reopened theatre, when its production takes residence there from 10th-13th November.

Originally scheduled for May 2020, the show has been twice postponed and with changes to the cast, and navigating the various restrictions, it has been a long and complicated road to performing again.

But according to producer Rowan Stanfield, it has been well worth it: “It has been wonderful to be together again after so long, and there is a real sense of excitement amongst the company. We have worked hard to secure a talented cast, including many new younger members, who are fast falling for the unique charms of Gilbert & Sullivan” says Rowan “it’s our hope that this buzz will rub off on the audiences, too. We want to send them away feeling utterly uplifted by the enduring humour and beautiful music of The Pirates of Penzance”.
