EASTBOURNE Mencap runs a hugely successful day care service called The Hive in Pevensey Road.
But the charity is furious with East Sussex County Council.
It received a letter yesterday about a proposed change to the parking in the disabled bay immediately outside the premises in Pevensey Road.
About a year ago, the council changed the parking in areas nearby.
The charity objected and requested that the loading bay opposite became a further disabled bay as there were many local residents now entitled to use the bay.
Its request was overturned.
Eastbourne Mencap is warning: “The new proposal will significantly impact our day service.
The proposal is to reduce unlimited time use to 30 minutes and no return in 2 hours.
All this in Learning Disability Awareness Week. If this change is enforced it will have a huge safety impact on our service users and the service we offer on a daily basis.”
We invite East Sussex County Council members to justify this and work with the charity.
What happens at The Hive:
“At The Hive we offer a range of activities and projects. We work in partnership with local organisations within our community. We support people to achieve their dreams and ambitions.
Our aim is to support people to gain skills during our varied needs assessed workshops to ensure that everyone that participates remains engaged and fulfilled. Our workshops are person centre led by the people that use our service.
Our vision is to build on local community links to enable our day centre users to take an active role within our community.
Our workshops encompass Asdan courses, which enable us to provide engaging programmes and qualifications that equip adults with the necessary skills for learning, work and life.”
