WORK has started on a new Day Surgery Hub at the DGH.

Here is Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell: “On Thursday I visited the DGH to see plans taking shape for the Day Surgery Hub. The very same day the Health Secretary confirmed Eastbourne’s participation in the £20 billion New Hospital Programme in fact.

Backed by Government funding and developed by local Trust leaders, this multi-million pound facility will help tackle the covid induced surgery backlog.

The trust have told me that there will be a total of 8,453 day surgery cases delivered through the four operating theatres in the new hub – an additional 2,473 day surgery procedures.

Already the diggers have arrived to undertake archaeological surveys of the site.

It was really good to be able to go on site and see this massive investment in our healthcare starting to happen.

We have a new hospital coming to Eastbourne but ahead of that is this new elective surgery hub – a big boost to treatment here in the town and it is positive news.

This new capacity will cut waiting lists and give patients faster access to operations. It very much shows the government is investing in our healthcare right now with exciting plans then coming down the line to when the new hospital begins to be built.”
