The Eastbourne All Weather Lifeboat was launched on Friday at 3pm to assist an eight-metre angling boat.
The vessel with two people on board had suffered engine failure half a mile south of Beachy Head Lighthouse.
When on scene it was confirmed that the casualty vessel had managed to start the engine but the pair on board were happy to be escorted back by the lifeboat into the safety of Sovereign Harbour.
