EASTBOURNE RNLI volunteer crew were paged at twenty past midnight on Saturday.
They were requested to launch the Inshore Lifeboat.
Sussex Police asked for our assistance after spotting an object in the water whilst searching for a missing person along Eastbourne seafront between Holywell and the Wish Tower.
When the lifeboat arrived on scene a lifebuoy was located and a thorough search of the area conducted.
With no persons found to be in danger, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
