Eastbourne RNLI launched its lifeboat at 8pm last night after reports a ‘vessel was thought to be capsized’ off Beachy Head.

It turned out to be a false alarm.

Here’s the RNLI: “Our Volunteer Crew were paged this evening Thursday 13th May at 20.00hrs.

They were requested to launch the Inshore Lifeboat and tasked to conduct a search off Beachy Head to reports of a vessel thought to be capsized.

After a thorough search of the area with nothing found or located the Inshore Lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.

This was classed as a false alarm with good intent as a vessel was seen to be passing through the area safely.”
