THE Volunteer Crew at Eastbourne RNLI was called out at 1.30pm yesterday to recover a body at sea.

They were requested to launch the All Weather Lifeboat and asked to recover a body reported in the sea 15 miles off the coast of Eastbourne.

The body had been sighted by a passing vessel in the busy South West shipping lane.

A search was conducted by Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and Eastbourne Lifeboat which resulted in the casualty being located.

The casualty was then recovered onto the All Weather Lifeboat and returned to Sovereign Harbour where it was passed into the care of waiting Coronor and Police Officers.

Coxswain Mark Sawyer says ” the crew were able to recover the casualty onto the All Weather Lifeboat in challenging sea conditions”
