Eastbourne RNLI rescued three people in an angling boat off Sovereign Harbour.
The volunteer crew were paged at 12.15 on Saturday afternoon.
The page requested the launch of the All Weather Lifeboat after an angling boat put out a Mayday distress call in an unknown position south of Sovereign Harbour.
The crew located the casualty vessel four miles south of Sovereign Harbour.
The three crew of the angling vessel were found to be safe and well and confirmed they had put out the distress call as they had been involved in an incident where they feared for their safety.
Once it was confirmed they no longer needed assistance and were happy to continue, the All Weather Lifeboat was stood down and returned to Sovereign Harbour.
