EASTBOURNE Police have issued a warning about rogue traders operating in Eastbourne.
They issued a warning and advice last night:
“Sadly we have seen a number of rogue trader incidents in Eastbourne recently, they all have had the similar nature and people have lost money through them.
Residents have either had a flyer delivered to them offering general household or garden work, or been approached by a male offering to do work for them.
Victims have tended to be older, and many live alone.
A quote has then been offered to complete some work and a request made to pay some money up front. The scammer has then “left to go and get their equipment”.
The suspect has then not returned at all.
These scams are very easily fallen for, the trader appears genuine and they are offering a service the residents need. However these frausters know how to target those most vulnerable in our communities and have no hesitations about stealing their cash.
Our investigations into these matters continue and we are working with our partners to identify offenders.
Schemes such as “Buy with confidence” exist to provide some support for residents in making choices on which businesses to use. Being a trading standards backed scheme it can often be one of the best way of getting reliable businesses to complete any work that you need doing.
Elderly neighbours and relatives may also need your support in looking for fair business to use. Be kind and offer any help that you can give.Buy with Confidence can be found here: https://orlo.uk/ooOcw“
