THE official opening of the Finmere Road Men’s Shed has taken place.
After 10 years in Fort Lane, Myrtle Road, the new shed is four times bigger at 4,000 square feet, with more machines, more tools and more space.
All organisers need now is more people.
There are three Sheds in Eastbourne – all run by Age Concern – at Langney Priory, Hampden Park and Finmere Road.
John Trainor, Chief Executive of Age Concern Eastbourne, said: “Men are often not as sociable as men, but all three are for both men and women.
“The message is very simple – they are friendly places, please come and pay a visit. The Finmere Road shed tends to focus more on DIY, tools, making things, but you don’t have to be brilliant at any.
“In fact, it may be that you want to come and just have a chat, enjoy company, enjoy the banter and have a cup of coffee.
“It’s about people of a certain generation spending time together. A barrier can often be having the bravery to make that initial contact with us – please do.”
Neil Peters, Community Engagement for Eastbourne Borough Council, spoke at the launch.
He said: “Energy, creativity and a sense of community defines the Eastbourne Shed Project.
“It does something magical for people aged 50 and over. It’s a place where skills are shared, personal projects come to life, and community projects are born”
