CHRISTMAS is a very difficult time for many people.

The annual Eastbourne Tree of Light service brings comfort to so many of us.

A service is held and the tree is lit up outside the Towner.

This year it will be happening but, for obvious reasons, in a very different way.

It is organised by the Rotary clubs of Eastbourne.

Rotarian Melanie Adams explains: “This has been a difficult year for us all but we felt it was more important than ever to give a Christmas Tree to our community.

We will have a Tree of Light outside the Congress this December in memory of our loved ones but we will need to approach it differently.

As we are not allowed to have or encourage any group gathering, we will film and share the service online via the Eastbourne Tree Of Light website.

We will pre-record all our readings from Rotarians, our MP Caroline Ansell and Mayor, Councillor Steve Wallis.

Music will be provided by Alex Adams and The Rattonians from The Royal Hippodrome Theatre.

We are asking you to complete your dedication for the Book of Remembrance and to write your messages on the ribbons which we will post to you and tie to the tree on your behalf and film.

You can of course visit the Tree during December, subject to maintaining Government guidelines, but you will not be able to gain access to the Tree for safety reasons.

The film will be released on Sunday 13th December and can be watched as many times as you wish.

Although this is not perfect we do hope that you will support again this year and hopefully we can resume in 2021 and join together in one place to remember.

If you have supported us before you will receive a letter and ribbons in the next week.

You can visit our website to donate online and if you do not want to write on a ribbon we will still tie one for you.”
