EASTBOURNE Walking Festival has been cancelled.

It was due to start on Wednesday but now the council says it is too high risk.

This is what the council has had to say: “It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Eastbourne Walking Festival.

Due to the recent amendment to the government guidelines around social gatherings, the Walking Festival team have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event in its current format.

We have worked closely with our stakeholders and sought advice from government bodies such as Public Health England to guide us to reaching this decision.

Eastbourne Borough Council as the organisers of this event have deemed the event too high risk to continue.

The health and safety of our walkers, walk leaders, and the general public has always been and will always be our number one priority.

We acknowledge that physical activity plays a vital role right now, so although we cannot provide guided walks this year, we have put together a number of self-guided walks that you could undertake in your own time should you wish to do so.

If you are not considered a vulnerable individual with underlying health conditions, and feel comfortable enough to follow these routes, then this may be of interest to you.

Eastbourne Walking Festival encourages you to remain active when you can, but only if adhering to the new guidelines and restrictions put in place by the government.

We look forward to welcoming back our dedicated walkers and walk leaders again from 17 – 26 September 2021.”
