The atmosphere at the Devonshire Park Theatre is electric, and anticipation high, as the cast and production crew of this year’s dream of a pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, get ready to lift the curtain at 7pm tonight and perform to almost 3000 people alone this opening weekend!

This year marks the 20th Eastbourne Theatres in-house pantomime production and will run from 10th December 2021 until 9th January 2022. For many returning audience members, a trip to the Devonshire Park panto is a huge part of their Christmas celebrations, and after a much longer wait than expected (however fitting for this title!) the Sleeping Beauty production team is thrilled to once again be able to bring this traditional festive form of live theatre back – bigger, better, and more bonkers than ever.

Expect a bumper dose of shenanigans and all the stand-out spectacle that audiences have come to know and expect from Eastbourne’s treasured panto including live band, stunning costumes, dazzling effects and even a fire-breathing dragon!

Pantomime director Chris Jordan said: “We literally cannot wait to get back to doing what we do best at the Devonshire Park, and that is present a family pantomime full of colour and spectacle and this year we have so many exciting plans up our sleeves, it’s going to be sensational!”

Chris added: “It’s great to have something so magical and fun to look-forward to and we are ready to put on a fabulous show for everyone to enjoy!”

Sleeping Beauty is the traditional tale of the beautiful princess who is cursed on her christening day by the malevolent Carabosse. Only true love’s kiss can wake the princess from a 100-year sleep but match.com doesn’t exist in panto-land, and how on earth can they manage to fit a 100-year sleep into a show which sometimes plays three times a day?!
