IT was a privilege to meet up with Jill Parker MBE who is stepping down as Chair of Trustees at The JPK Project in Old Town.
She’s 82 and has devoted the last 45 years ensuring that people with learning disabilities have a voice.
Jill is incredibly well known locally and was deservedly honoured by the Queen for her amazing work.
Staff at JPK are keen to stress that Jill may be leaving but the charity remains, and remains in a very strong position, which is good to hear.
Eastbourne is home to so many amazing charities, and I was pleased to join the business community at the Children With Cancer Fund dinner at La Locanda del Luca in Cornfield Terrace.
It really was an impressive turnout and £12,000 was raised for what is a very good cause locally.
Talking of good causes, and the nominations have been pouring in for The Eastbourne Community Awards 2026.
It’s a partnership between Bournefree, Coda Pharmacy and Glass House, and the big night is Thursday June 18, from 7pm.

We are grateful to Bryce and his team at Sussex Audiology Centre in Meads High Street is hosting the voting platform.
It’s great to report that Eastbourne Bandstand has reopened as well as the Seafront Office, which gets very busy.
We must get behind the Bandstand this summer – many thought it may not be open, but it is – and it’s a great asset for Eastbourne. People come from miles, boosting our economy.
Businesses in Victoria Place are in a much better position than they were last year. The works are now all but complete, and it’s looking great.
At least two new businesses are opening up, and after all the stresses of the past 12 months, the future is looking good.
Victoria Place is looking good.
Finally, a mention of the great John McCutchan who has ensured that once again the Arlington Bluebells have been another huge success. Charities have been busy raising funds and people have been enjoying the bluebells.
Happy May everyone!
