EASTBOURNE Borough Council has been making national headlines – and for all the wrong reasons it would appear.

Eight councils across the country face an independent government-commissioned review into their finances as ministers decide whether to bail them out financially.

And Eastbourne is one of them.

The Guardian revealed this at the weekend.

The others are Bexley, Copeland, Slough, Luton, Peterborough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Wirral.

The way the LibDems have run the council’s finances has long been a matter of scrutiny.

The Libdems say they simply haven’t got enough money.

The Tories argue they don’t know how to run the finances and have made some risky decisions in the past few years.

In particular, their purchases of buildings is questionable at best as they haven’t seen the return they will have expected. All of this is taxpayers’ money,
