A popular estate agency in Hailsham is appealing to local businesses to donate vital computers to assist home schooling.
Crane and Co. based in the High Street has launched its ‘Computers for Kids’ campaign which has already donated more than 20 new devices themselves which are being given to schools in Hailsham to help children who need them.
Online learning has now made having a device essential if children are to continue their education while in lockdown, but there are many children who cannot easily access online lessons through lack of equipment and there are many families who simply cannot afford to purchase the necessary equipment.
Mike Crane, from Crane and Co. said: “It immediately struck us that we just had to do something to help and jumped straight onto the phone to the local Schools and Academies to learn exactly what was needed.
“We’re asking local businesses and individuals to join the appeal and donate equipment if they can. Contact us for laptop specification details (different schools need different specs and operating systems) and info on where we have identified as the best priced / reliable suppliers. If you have your own providers who can supply quickly – even better! If you’re an IT supplier and can offer help or reduced pricing we’d love to talk to you.”
Executive Principal, Phil Matthews comments “Whilst the Department for Education has set up a scheme to provide a large number of laptops to students across the country, there is still a considerable shortfall in many communities and this situation acts as a significant barrier to their learning during the current Covid crisis. It is imperative that schools do all they can do keep students engaged at this current time of lockdown whilst they are required to learn remotely from home.”
If businesses or individuals would like to donate new laptops to the Computers for Kids, appeal contact Mike or Katie on 01323 440678 for more information.
