On Saturday 14 August there will be a Family Fun Day in Hampden Park organised by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.
It will raise money to support local families by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with seriously ill or injured children in hospital. With 12 Houses across the UK including a House based in the heart of Brighton, the Charity supports on average 35 families from Eastbourne each year.
Sponsored by FME Services the event will be opened by the Mayor at 11am and will include a whole range of fun activities including a scavenger hunt, whacky races organised by Rebel Rebel, a live DJ, a bouncy castle and a dog show run by Sussex Coast Vets. There will be six fun categories in the dog show including ‘best food-begging face’ and ‘Golden Oldie’ and all dog owners are welcome to join the event.
Local Councillor Paul Metcalfe MBE who has helped organise the event said:
“I am a big supporter of the Ronald McDonald House Charity for all the help and support they have given to my daughter Nicola and Son-in-law Simon whilst granddaughter Sophie was extremely ill in hospital for six months in both London and Brighton. They provided them with accommodation in their houses close to the hospitals.”
Fellow organiser Marie Hards said:
“Ronald McDonald House Charities helped us massively as a family to stay close to our tiny baby girl who was in hospital having been born at just 24 weeks. We were able to stay in the house for as long as we needed, it was our home away from home and we will be forever grateful to not only the house but the kind and caring staff too.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK operate 12 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK situated in or near hospital grounds, enabling seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment. To find out more, visit www.rmhc.org.uk
