Eastbourne Airbourne 2022 will end this year with a spectacular firework finale, thanks to sponsorship from the Eastbourne Hospitality Association.

The four-day airshow returns to the town from 18-21 August after a two year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic and organisers have confirmed the popular firework show will take place at 9pm on Sunday evening.

The display will begin at the earlier time of 9pm from the beaches near the Wish Tower, to enable younger families to visit and to support those using public transport.

The firework finale has been made possible this year thanks to sponsorship by the Eastbourne Hospitality Association and supplier Frontier Fireworks.

Providing an additional boost to the economy, the glittering finale is expected to encourage visitors to stay into the evening, dining in local restaurants or even extending their stay overnight into Monday.

The display is being co-ordinated by Frontier Fireworks, one of the first firework companies in the UK to sign up to a carbon offsetting programme to reduce emissions across the industry.

Yvette Cowderoy, from the Eastbourne Hospitality Association Management Team, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the firework finale at Airbourne this year.

“Visitors and residents alike look forward to the Sunday night firework display which comes at the end of the fantastic four-day extravaganza event.

“It is even better as Frontier Fireworks are one of the first firework companies in the UK to sign up to a carbon offsetting programme to support reducing emissions at all displays. It promises to be a wonderful night.”

It was revealed earlier this year that this year’s Airbourne could be the last if donations are not forthcoming from visitors and businesses. Eastbourne Borough Council, which runs the event, says financial support is needed if the event is to continue in 2023 and beyond as it must run at no cost to the taxpayer.

Annie Wills, Eastbourne Borough Council’s Head of Tourism and Culture, said, “We are all very excited to see the return of the firework finale and thank those at Eastbourne Hospitality Association, who have made this possible, along with Frontier Fireworks.

“Contributions to support Airbourne can be made through our bucket collection as well as online or through the card readers that will be available along the seafront.

“I would urge all visitors to donate to help ensure this event can continue in future years.”

Airbourne returns from 18 – 21 August and entry is free.  The airshow is sponsored by Posturite (lead sponsor), Eastbourne Hospitality Association, Your Eastbourne BID, Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, Boundless CSMA, Birchwood Ford, Caffyns, Environment First, Euro Selfdrive, Frontier Fireworks, Gemini Print, OHM Energy, Signtek, Stagecoach and W. Bruford.
