THE Taylors have a long history in Eastbourne. Colin and Sharon’s first restaurant was Shades on Bolton Road 38 years ago and the most recent addition to the family business is Flames, on the original site.
Michelle, the restaurant manager, and daughter of Sharon and Colin, was born in the flat upstairs! Michelle wanted the diners to see the flame of the grill and smell the meat grilling. Customers can see their meal being prepared and enjoy the connection to their food as the kitchen is open and faces the restaurant.
Beautiful bar
There’s a beautiful bar swathed in flowers, and outdoor seating for these lovely warm evenings. Bolton Road is part of the town’s BID project where areas are being pedestrianised to enhance the eating and drinking experience. A positive move for residents and visitors.
An excellent reason to drop by and see what the Taylors have created. A stylish, family friendly restaurant, for everyone to enjoy and relax in.
The grill
The star of the show here is the steak sourced from local butchers, R&B. The burgers are juicy and bursting with flavour From the flame grill. There are also vegetarian and vegan options. A new Flames classic is the chicken or steak fajitas, brought straight to the table on a sizzling grill. Grilled skewer with glazed chicken breast are also popular at the restaurant.
Family friendly
They do wonderful breakfasts too, sandwiches and lighter bites for lunch, and as it’s so family friendly, a great children’s menu. I asked the what was the inspiration, Sharon said, “We just want to provide our customers with a really great affordable meal.”
