EAST Sussex County Council have agreed to suspend on street parking charges every Thursday, Friday and Saturday after 4pm to support local businesses and retailers.

Cllr Claire Dowling, cabinet member for transport at East Sussex County Council, said “We know how important the next three weeks are for businesses this year, and are very happy to provide free parking after 4pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Christmas to support Eastbourne’s late night shopping activities”.

In addition, parking on the seafront has also been reduced for the winter.

The announcement was made following lobbying by Your Eastbourne BID.

Chief Executive Stephen Holt said “It is absolutely crucial that this year, everyone supports our local retailers, restaurants and businesses. In the past, East Sussex County Council have offered free parking after 4pm on Thursday, and so we welcome the additional days that have provided. We continue to discuss with East Sussex County Council the transport provision for Eastbourne and parking. Please do come into the town and enjoy our Christmas activities including the Christmas market which opens on the 17th of December, and of course, our Christmas Cracker Raffle”.

Eastbourne Borough Council have agreed to match the provision, meaning parking in Hyde Gardens will be free after 4pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
