Gates between the east of the pier and The Pavilion Café are to remain closed until next week.
This is due to the dire weather forecast.
Here is Eastbourne Borough Council: “Due to the incoming storms we will be closing the flood gates on the promenade (East of the pier) today(Thursday 17 February).
We will keep the gates, which are located between east of the pier and The Pavilion Café, closed over the weekend, and hope to be able to reopen them early next week when the weather calms down.
Latest Met Office weather warning:
Weather warnings have been issued for two storms hitting the UK over the next couple of days.
Storm Dudley will bring strong, south-westerly winds into this evening. Gusts of 40-60 mph are likely which could lead to localised tree incidents and poor driving conditions. It should settle overnight, however, as the wind eases.
The main concern is Storm Eunice which is expected to hit the UK on Friday morning bringing very strong winds, with widespread gusts of 60-70 mph highly likely which could go as high as 80 mph in a few exposed locations. The wind should gradually ease in our area during the afternoon on Friday as the storm moves further east. However, the Met Office has issued an Amber wind warning for Friday (0300-2100hrs) highlighting the risk of a danger to life from flying debris and falling trees, as well as the potential for structural damage to buildings.
There could also be significant disruption to most types of transport, localised power outages and also large waves along the coast.”
