There’s a distinct chill in the air, the pumpkins are out, Halloween is approaching and at the Devonshire Park Theatre there’s a selection of spooky shows in store – all treats no tricks! The Eastbourne Theatres podcast is even getting in on the act with a ghostly themed episode featuring chats with staff about their eerie experiences and cast interviews with a scary twist.

The headless horseman rides again in a new stunning adaptation of the American Gothic classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (23 -27 November) starring Wendi Peters (Coronation Street) and Bill Ward (Coronation Street, Emmerdale).

And the first show to re-open the Devonshire Park is the inventive re-telling of the Conan-Doyle classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles (26 -30 October), from Original Theatre company. An exhilarating collision of farce, theatrical invention offers a brand-new twist on the greatest detective story of all time.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated adventure gets a brilliantly farcical overhaul in Lotte Wakeman’s acclaimed production which was a West End smash. Rumours abound of a cursed giant hound loose on the moors, Holmes and Watson must act fast to save the Baskerville family’s last remaining heir, but the moon is rising, and an ill-wind is blowing in from the moors.

Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is the ultimate horror story this spine-tingling brand-new adaptation from acclaimed production company Tilted Wig is sure to be a terrifying delight. In the small town of Sleepy Hollow Hallowsman celebrations are approaching, new teacher Icabod Crane has just taken a new post at the local school but all is far from what it seems. The tales and terrifying legends that teem amongst the townsfolk can’t possibly be true, can they?
