HOW will Eastbourne’s supermarkets react to the shocking Chamber of Commerce claims about how they are managing Covid?

As we highlighted yesterday with our three reports, Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce carried out an inspection of the supermarkets in Eastbourne.

Its findings were terrible:

” With the exception of Tesco in Lottbridge Road, who were excellent, the protection protocols are very hit and miss.

“Some supermarket staff were not wearing masks;

some stores were not controlling numbers of customers on entry,

none of them had a one way system,

most were not cleaning card payment PDQ machines or self payment touch screens,

some staff changed tills without wiping the till between members of staff

and some staff had no idea of the cleaning protocols including one person at ASDA who told us “the virus isn’t in Eastbourne”!

It makes miserable reading.

Most of us will still be going to supermarkets as they remain open in Tier 4.

Let’s hope there is change and quick change.

What the Chamber found is unacceptable.
