OUR new MP has got straight to work – and his first mission is at the DGH – something we all care about so passionately.

He is calling on DGH bosses to put in place a plan to get our midwifery unit safely re-open for births without delay, as was promised some months ago.

The unit has been closed for births since December 2023. Josh is pushing for a meeting to thrash this out.

He said: “The context is that, in February this year, DGH bosses committed to “a review with maternity colleagues to develop a new staffing model that will enable us to resume births at Eastbourne DGH and provide safe community midwifery services for local people…by the end of April 2024.”

“It is now July and I have not seen any sign of this review, nor have the local families who need and deserve a fully-functioning midwifery unit in Eastbourne, at the very least.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

“You have my word that I will keep fighting for our hospital.”
