EASTBOURNE LibDem Josh Babarinde says he ‘will fight tooth and nail’ at planned DGH changes.
“I met with hospital bosses to learn more about their proposals for the future cardiology and ophthalmology services at the DGH and contribute to their consultation on them.
I have serious concerns about the proposal to move the most specialist cardiac services (surgery, specialist in-patient beds and more) to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings. This would affect approx. 1,500 people who currently access these key services at the DGH every year.
Given the cardiac risk level that hospital bosses recognise in our local population – and the accessibility issues a service move would cause – these services MUST say in Eastbourne. I will fight tooth and nail for this to be the case.
In the meeting, I secured a commitment from health bosses for them to share the criteria they will use to make their decision, as well as the weighting they will use, so that local campaigners and I can make the strongest case to keep these services at the DGH.”
