THERE is a huge row over the tennis courts at Hampden Park.

We contacted Eastbourne Borough Council yesterday afternoon to ask exactly what is going on.

The council has handed over responsibility of the courts to a private company.

You now have to book and pay in advance online.

They are no longer free.

Here’s Eastbourne Labour Party candidate Margaret Robinson: “I have been shocked to find our Lib Dem controlled council has locked out residents to the tennis courts in Hampden Park to save money.

Also another in Old Town.

It will cost £7 to gain entry for a hour.

Families with children and young people have had a hard year.

The sun comes out, restrictions lifting and now families and young people are locked out of a community safe space to exercise.

Community tennis courts that have been free to use for years. This cannot be right morally.”
