Three local business mums have come together to organise a successful charity event raising money for the Conquest Special Care Baby Unit in Hastings.

Jen Fisher of Mini First Aid East Sussex Brighton and Hove, Louise Bicknell of Dave and Maddie, and Marie Williams of More Than Cake (Eastbourne) were able to raise £188.00 to fund items for babies and parents at the unit.

As well as running her sewing business from home, local mum Louise is also a nurse at the special care baby unit and was keen to raise funds for items that can make the lives of parents and babies there a little bit easier such as baby grows, feeding cushions and cutlery. Having been friends with Louise for a few years and having spent 9 days in the unit with her daughter when she was born in 2018, Jen was happy to volunteer to help raise much needed additional funds for other parents.

Jen Fisher of Mini First Aid East Sussex, Brighton and Hove has spent the past year training nearly 1,000 local people in first aid through classes for families, schools and businesses. She offered her time and resources to deliver this session with a difference. Mini First Aid offers an award winning 2 hour baby and child first aid class for parents and carers which includes CPR, choking, bumps, breaks, burns, bleeding, febrile seizures and meningitis awareness from newborn to puberty; and Jen was more than happy to volunteer to deliver this class free of charge so that the money from tickets sold to local families could go straight to raising funds for the unit.

The event took place at More Than Cake, Carlisle Road, Eastbourne on Sunday 24th October and was attended by three parents, two expectant parents and two grandparents. Marie of More Than Cake donated the upstairs of her venue for use for the class for free.

The session was a great success in not only raising extra funds for the special care baby unit but also in training another seven local parents and carers in potentially life saving first aid skills for their little ones. Jen is delighted to be back at More Than Cake to offer baby and child first aid to parents and carers every month from January for only £20 as well as continuing classes across the rest of East Sussex, Brighton and Hove to ensure that anyone who wants to learn what to do in an emergency can come along to a session.
