As it approaches its 25th anniversary year, employment charity People Matter is gearing up for another busy autumn and winter in meeting the needs of Eastbourne and Wealden’s job-seekers.
Through the Covid pandemic, through the months of lockdown, the ending of the furlough scheme and the introduction of Kickstart, People Matter’s team has been offering its free support and advice to people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
“We’re here to help, any which way you choose, “ said CEO Ann Gillard. “We can meet with you in person, with an appointment, or on Zoom, through Skype, on WhatsApp or by telephone.
“We’ve never been more accessible or more available.”
The good news is that in spite of having its busiest year ever, People Matter is able to offer a quick turnaround of appointments.
Thousands of job-seekers have benefitted during the past 25 years from the free expert careers advice offered by People Matter’s professional team of client advisers.
Support ranges from CV writing and careers guidance to employability and confidence-building workshops, mock interview practice, and assistance with application forms and letters to employers.
From its base at 6 Saffrons Road, the charity also offers the facility of a Job Club , where – by appointment – clients can access free use of a computer and printing facilities. Food Safety In Catering is one of the courses also offered free-of-charge at Saffrons Road on a periodic basis.
To make itself as accessible as possible to job-seekers, the charity is also offering drop-in sessions at Eastbourne’s Langney Shopping Centre, at St Elisabeth’s Church in Old Town and at Willingdon Trees Community Centre. Appointments for any of these venues – or for the offices at Saffrons Road – can by made by calling 01323 431289 or 07843 190738.
As well as face-to-face and in-person meetings, consultations are also available by telephone or online through the use of Zoom or other applications.
Said Ann Gillard: “We learned from the experiences of lockdown that we could extend our reach in this way and our clients have become comfortable in us helping them through different channels. Our approach is just as friendly, just as supportive.”
Further services are offered by People Matter through its Working For You team (which tries to match potential candidates to employers’ vacancies) and through its Kickstart initiative – giving first-class employability support to young people aged 18 to 24, under the government’s job creation scheme. For further information and guidance, again please call 01323 431289 or 07843 190738.
