Meads is one of the 9 wards that make up Eastbourne. The Meads Wellbeing Working Group has completed two public meetings this July, marking a major step forward in a growing community-led movement to improve the environmental and social wellbeing of Meads.
Formed earlier this year after conversations between residents and colleagues about the future of the neighbourhood, the group has now met nine times and launched two workshops and two public meetings to gather ideas from residents, businesses, schools, and local organisations. The response has been enthusiastic, with strong support from local politicians, voluntary groups, and community partners.
The Working Group’s mission is simple but ambitious: to improve the environmental and social wellbeing of Meads. To achieve this, the group is now inviting residents to help turn ideas into real, visible projects.

A Call to Action: Local Volunteers Needed
For any idea to become a real project, each one needs volunteers to lead it — and
volunteers to support it. Whether you have an hour a month or a day a week, your involvement matters.
You don’t need specialist knowledge. You don’t need to be part of a committee. You simply need to care about Meads and want to help shape its future.
Volunteers can be:
· Project leads (help coordinate a single idea)
· Supporters (lend time, skills, or enthusiasm)
· Passive supporters (add your name to strengthen community backing when proposals go to councils and partner organisations)
Every level of involvement is valued.
Why Now?
Meads is at a turning point. With growing interest in safer streets, greener spaces, and stronger community networks, this is a rare moment where local voices can directly influence how the neighbourhood evolves.
The more residents who join the initiative, the stronger the mandate for change — and the more likely councils and partner bodies are to listen.
