THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW

Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne; Tuesday 23 – Saturday 27 November 2021

The American Gothic classic, Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been transformed to the stage with this new production; and it’s found the perfect setting in the glorious surroundings of Eastbourne’s Victorian Playhouse the Devonshire Park Theatre this autumn from 23 – 27 November.

Coronation Street legends Wendi Peters (Big! The Musical) and Bill Ward (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Emmerdale) lead the cast in this thrilling new adaptation. Transforming the American Dream into the American nightmare, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow unleashes one of the most terrifying monsters from the horror canon – the Headless Horseman.

Tension is ramped up to the max in this nail-biting, heart-pounding adaptation of the classic horror. Audiences are sure to be perched on the edge of their seats until the final thrilling revelation. Adapted to the stage by acclaimed playwright Philip Meeks (Murder, Margaret and Me; Harpy) and from producers Tilted Wig (The Rivals, Great Expectations).

The accomplished creative team have been pushed to the max with this new production as lighting and stage effects combine to recreate the horror of the headless horseman and the hollow as never before. Acclaimed illusions director Filipe J Carvalho, who has previously worked on the West End’s Back to the Future the Musical, Secret Cinema’s Stranger Things and the world premiere of Philip Pullman’s Book of Dust La Belle Sauvage which opens in London this December, has created some magical surprises. Ichabod Crane enters an eerie world of secrets and unsettling tradition as he arrives in Sleepy Hollow to become the town teacher. While quickly finding friendship, his presence is not wholly welcome. But not all is as it seems, for Ichabod harbours his own dark secret. He is not in Sleepy Hollow by chance. When disturbing events overwhelm the small town, he finds himself swept up in a dangerous mystery which leaves him doubting his own sanity. The cast also includes Sam Jackson (Skins, Beautiful Thing) as Ichabod Crane, Rose Quentin (York Witches Society), Lewis Cope (Vera, Witness for the Prosecution) and Tommy Sim’aan (As You Like It, Doctors).

Producer Katherine Senior of Tilted Wig Productions said: “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is set to be an epic piece of theatre, combining a stellar cast with a fantastic script and theatrical illusions that will blow your mind! It’s incredibly exciting to be creating new work once again.”
