The Mayor and Mayoress of Eastbourne enjoyed a special lunch at Leaf Hall prepared by the first people to complete a new food skills course.
Eastbourne-based Community Stuff is running the eight-week course Time to Cook! which includes basic cookery, safe food storage, avoiding food wastage and has been designed to complement the not-for-profit organisation’s cookery book Beyond the Foodbank.
Clients in recovery at East Sussex Recovery Alliance (ESRA) were the first to finish the programme and they also took the Food Safety Level 2 qualification online.
To celebrate their success, they invited Councillor Pat Rodohan and his wife Barbara to sample their cooking, along with ESRA staff and their families.
The Mayor said: “This was a lovely event and we really enjoyed the tasty lunch, as well as meeting the students and teachers.
“The book Beyond the Foodbank is a wonderful introduction to food ingredients and cooking, and perfect for anyone learning to cook, setting up home or off to university.”
The Mayor presented all course participants with a certificate of achievement and a signed copy of Beyond the Foodbank.
