THE new public toilet in Polegate High Street has been opened today, by the Mayor of Polegate, Cllr David Watts.
The toilets will be free to use and replace the old facility which has now closed.
The new toilet will provide modern, clean and up to date Toilet facility in the centre of the town that can be maintained more effectively and at a lower cost.
It will be accessible for all and includes baby change.
The toilet will be open from 8am-8pm 7 days a week 365 days a year.
It is centrally located in Polegate High Street, adjacent to the Town Council offices.
This location is more central and secure than the old facility.
The new toilet cubicle will be directly in view of CCTV which should help prevent the anti-social behaviour and vandalism experienced at the old toilets.
The Town Council considered many options before deciding on the new facility.
These included other locations within Polegate which were too costly or not feasible.
Council also looked at modernising the old facility, which was incredibly expensive and was considered not the best use of public money. The new toilet is much better value.
The mayor of Polegate, Cllr David Watts said “I am very pleased to be able to open the new toilet today which will bring a much more modern facility to the residents of Polegate and is in a more secure and central location. The new facility is as touch free as possible which in the current COVID times is essential.
“The Town Council understands the importance of having a public toilet in Polegate and knows many residents are delighted that we have been able keep this in the High Street.”
