A PARAMEDIC has become the first person at an ambulance service to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine today.

Paramedic and team teader at South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) Nicola Sykes received the jab today from the service’s director of nursing, Bethan Eaton-Haskins.

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust covers Sussex.

It said: “Today we have started to vaccinate our staff.

Thanks to the support of our system partners, we have already managed to vaccinate 1,800 of our staff with the Pfizer vaccine so far.

Having direct access to the Oxford vaccine will enable us to increase the numbers of our staff vaccinated significantly and help to keep them safe.”
