Maybugs Eastbourne is OPEN!
Independent retailer Maybugs have opened their new Eastbourne Superstore.
At a glittering event on Thursday evening (29th July) co-owners Greg Rose and John Dale were joined by the great and the good of Eastbourne to christen the new store.
Caroline Ansell MP and His Worshipful The Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Pat Rodohan cut the yellow ribbon to the new Maybugs branch which opened it’s doors to the public the following morning.

On opening the new store Caroline Ansell Said
“This is an emporium like I’ve never seen before, there’s so much to see my eyes can’t take it all in. It’s so nice to see an independent retailer flourishing after the past 18 months. I wish the Maybugs team the very best of luck in Eastbourne, not that they will need it from what I have seen.”

On what this means to Eastbourne The Mayor Said
“I cannot believe what they have done with this shop! There’s nothing like this in Eastbourne, it gives locals another reason to come back to the town and shop locally, rather than defaulting to online shopping. It’s such a beautiful shop, and such a pleasurable experience.”

Maybugs is located on Terminus Road Eastbourne, in the former Laura Ashley building. The entire ground floor has been refurbished and is unrecognisable. Maybugs stock a variety of gifts and homewares, and stock brands such as JellyCat, Wrendale Designs, Carrie Elspeth Jewellery and Inis Fragrance.

Greg Rose said “We are completely overwhelmed, we were joined by family and friends for our opening event and they were blown away by the store. However we were not prepared to turn up on Friday morning to find people queuing to get in an hour before we opened! The store has been at capacity all weekend and it’s just amazing that so many people have come out to support us… I just don’t accept it when we hear people say the high street is dead, it’s down to retailers to up their game to bring the customers in!

John Dale said “It makes me so proud that all our hard work has paid off, customers have been commenting weekend on how wonderful the shop is, and that they have never been anywhere like it. We set out to create something unique here, the future of gift retailing, creating an experience as well as an exciting shopping environment.”
Also at Maybugs you’ll find a huge variety of locally produced items, including candles and wax melts, sweet treats and original artwork by local artist Pennie Cunliffe-Lister. Greg Rose said “Supporting other local businesses and producers is part of the Maybugs ethos, of course we can’t source everything locally, and sometimes price is prohibitive, however if we can get it from someone local then we will!”

Comments from some of the first customers to enter the store
Michaela Brooks”Eastbounre has never had a shop like this, it’s given me a reason to start coming back shopping in the town again”
Sarah Birch “It’s the most beautiful shop i’ve even seen, i could send all my wages in here”

Maybugs is owned by couple Greg Rose and John Dale. They opened their first branch in Hailsham’s Vicarage Field in 2018. In 2020 they opened Flowers by Maybugs, a contemporary florist and floral design studio next door to their Hailsham gift shop.

Maybugs stock a huge variety of gift and homewares including brands such as Wrendale Designs, JellyCat and Inis. Prices start at just £1 and go up to £1200 for some of their most luxurious items.
The new store opening has created 8 jobs, and some of the former Laura Ashley staff who lost their jobs when the company went into liquidation are amongst them. This will increase to 20 when the 1st floor opens in 2022.

Maybugs Eastbounre is open 7 days a week. 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on a Sunday.
