NEW figures show self employed people in Eastbourne have claimed £23.7 million from the furlough scheme.

Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell has published the figures today.

She said: “Some 20% of those furloughed nationally went back to work part-time in July.

In the South East 111,200 went back to work when part-time furlough was introduced.

In Eastbourne 3,800 self-employed people claimed £9.7 million during the second tranche of claims.

This is in addition to the first set of claims that totalled £14million.

I have spoken to so many self-employed people who have told me these payments have allowed them to keep trading.

Although we know there will be tricky times ahead it’s good to know that so many people in Eastbourne have been really helped by these schemes.”
